About Version 2.0
Highlights
Version 2.0 is a major release upgrade of the
Digital Image Processing
application package. The new version features over 60 new symbols (i.e., functions and options) that extend the package in many areas by adding important new capabilities, most significantly in the image segmentation, image restoration, and spectral analysis areas. Also, a substantial number of existing functions has been enhanced, both in speed and features, while retaining ease of use and maintaining compatibility with the latest versions of
Mathematica
. Here is a listing of the many changes.
Usability
The
ImageData
object has been generalized to allow representation of image data with an arbitrary number of channels and unspecified color space.
Color space transformations
Color space transformations between RGB and the CIE (
Commission Internationale de L
'
Eclairage
) color spaces
XYZ
,
L*u*v*
and
L*a*b*
have been added.
Contrast enhancement
Several new contrast enhancement operators have been added including gamma correction, a two-valued threshold operator, a so-called look-up table operator, and a new adjustable, nonlinear contrast operator with an s-shaped transfer function.
Image segmentation
New additions include watershed transform, distance transform, region labeling, Canny and Shen-Castan edge detectors, new threshold operators and derivative filters, and a new joint histogram function.
Power spectrum
Several nonparametric methods for computing the power spectrum of an
n
-dimensional array were added including classic periodogram, averaging periodogram (Welch), modified averaging periodogram (Bartlett), and smoothing periodogram (Blackman and Tukey).
Image restoration
Several image restoration algorithms including inverse, minimum mean square error (Wiener), constrained least squares, geometric mean, and Lucy-Richardson.
Java connectivity
A translator for Java's BufferedImage class and Sun's Java Advanced Imaging (JAI) library have been added.
