Square Roots

How to type

Hold down the Control key and type a 2 to get a square root sign.

Press ControlKeyLeftModified2RightModified

Type inside the placeholder (which is already selected).

Type x

Hold down the Control key and press the space bar to move out of the square root.

How to type

Repeat the steps of the example for  .

Type the second square root in the same way as the first.

Another way to type

Start by typing the expression that will be inside the square root.

Type x y

Select the expression. (You can select it by clicking and dragging the pointer over the expression, by holding down the Control key, and typing a period repeatedly, or by clicking the expression repeatedly.)

Select x y

Hold down the Control key and type a 2 to put a square root around the selection. Move out of the square root by holding down the Control key and pressing the space bar.
