Superscripts

How to type

Type the symbol that will have the superscript.

Type x

Create a superscript by holding down the Control key and typing a 6.

Press ControlKeyLeftModified6RightModified

Type the superscript into the placeholder (which is already selected).

Type i

Move the insertion point out of the superscript position down to the baseline by holding down the Control key and pressing the space bar.

How to type

Create a placeholder in the superscript position.

Type x, press ControlKeyLeftModified6RightModified

To avoid multiplying the two superscripts, separate them with an invisible comma. To type the alias for an invisible comma, press the Escape key before and after typing a comma.

Type 2, press EscapeKey, type a comma, press EscapeKey, type 3

Move out of the superscript position down to the baseline by holding down the Control key and pressing the space bar.

The first three steps below create and fill in the superscript and its subscript.

Type i

Hold down the Control key and press the space bar twice to move down to the baseline.
