A.8.2 Overall Organization of the CD-ROM

Basic partitions on a typical Mathematica distribution CD-ROM.

In the PC partition, all file names follow 8.3 DOS conventions, and CRLF newlines are included in text files. Note that Mathematica itself works the same regardless of how newlines are specified.
The General partition contains versions for all computer systemsincluding Macintosh and PC.

Typical elements of each partition.

In the General partition, Executables contains subdirectories for each type of computer system, as specified by $SystemID. These subdirectories then contain command files that invoke the actual executable programs.
In the Macintosh and PC partitions, the executable programs are included directly at the top level, and there is no separate Executables directory.
