A.8.3 The Installation Process
You can install Mathematica locally on your computer system by running an installation program from the distribution CD-ROM.
Before you will be able to run Mathematica, you will usually have to set up an appropriate password. Your installation program will tell you how to do this.

Typical types of installation available in the installation program.
Steps in the automatic installation process typically include:
Copying files from the CD-ROM to your hard disk.
Installing executable programs or aliases in a central place on your system.
Installing Mathematica fonts in a central place on your system.
Installing man pages on Unix systems.
Optionally installing online documentation, add-on packages and Mathematica examples.
Setting up appropriate custom configuration files.
