ShowSpecialCharacters

FilledSmallSquare ShowSpecialCharacters is an option for Cell which specifies whether to replace \[Name], \:nnnn, etc. by explicit special characters.

FilledSmallSquare With ShowSpecialCharacters->False special characters are always displayed by name when possible.

FilledSmallSquare ShowSpecialCharacters is more often set at the level of styles or notebooks than at the level of individual cells.
