How to type

Start with the expression that will be the base.

Type x

Create a built-up power by pressing the Control key and the 6 key (or the Caret key) at the same time.

Press ControlKeyLeftModified6 RightModified or ControlKeyLeftModified^ RightModified

Type the exponent into the placeholder (which is already selected).

Type m

Move the insertion point out of the exponent down to the baseline by

pressing the Control and Space keys at the same time.

Press ControlKeyKeyBarSpaceKey

How to type

Repeat the steps of the first example.

Type x, press ControlKeyLeftModified^ RightModified, type m, press ControlKeyKeyBarSpaceKey

Add the second power in a similar way.

Type +y, press ControlKeyLeftModified^ RightModified, type n, press ControlKeyKeyBarSpaceKey

How to type

Repeat the first two steps of the first example.

Type x, press ControlKeyLeftModified^ RightModified

Fill in the exponent and come down out of the exponent.

Type m+n, press ControlKeyKeyBarSpaceKey

How to type

Repeat the first three steps of the first example.

Type x, press ControlKeyLeftModified^ RightModified, type m

Construct a built-up fraction in the exponent.

Press ControlKeyLeftModified/ RightModified, type n

Press Control-Space twice to get down to the baseline.

Press ControlKeyKeyBarSpaceKey twice
