A.1 Installing a Single-Machine Copy on Windows

Section 2.2 describes how to install Mathematica on a Windows client so that it uses a network license supplied by a license server. This section describes how to install and run Mathematica using a single-machine password. To complete the installation, you will need to contact Wolfram Research and obtain a password (see Section 1.4.2 for details).

If the machine on which you want to install Mathematica does not have a CD-ROM drive, you can run the installer off another machine on the network. To do this, insert the Mathematica CD into the drive on the remote machine. Then locate the CD-ROM object on your computer and double-click the Setup.exe file in the PC__8_3 directory. Once the installer is launched, follow the same steps as for installing off a local CD.

To install a single-machine copy of Mathematica on Windows:

2. Insert the Mathematica CD. The Mathematica CD window appears on your screen. Click the Install Mathematica to a hard disk button.

Note: If the Mathematica CD window does not appear, the CD autorun feature might be disabled on your computer. To start the installer, double-click the CD-ROM drive icon and then double-click the Setup.exe file in the PC__8_3 directory.

3. Click the radio button marked Full for a full install or click Minimal to install only the minimum required files. Click Browse to choose another destination directory, if desired. Click Install to start copying files.

4. Once all the files are copied to your disk, a dialog box appears asking if you wish to enter your license information now or wait until later. Click the radio button marked Enter license information now. Then click Finish.

5. Mathematica starts up and the following dialog box appears. Click the radio button marked Single Machine. Then enter your name, the name of your organization, and your license number in the text boxes provided. The license number is printed on the license certificate included in the box. Click OK when you are done.

6. The following dialog box appears showing the MathID number for your machine. You will need to contact Wolfram Research and supply this MathID and your license number to register and obtain a password (see Section 1.4.2 for details).

7. Enter your password and click OK.

Note: If you chose not to enter license information in either step 3 or 4, you can still run in MathReader mode. In this mode you cannot create or edit notebooks, but you can view and print them.
