ShowSpecialCharacters

ShowSpecialCharacters
is an option for Style and Cell which specifies whether to replace \[Name], \:nnnn, etc. by explicit special characters.

With ShowSpecialCharacters->False special characters are always displayed by name when possible.

ShowSpecialCharacters is more often set at the level of styles or notebooks than at the level of individual cells.

Display special characters as the rendered characters, or by name:

\[Alpha]\[Integral]\[DoubleStruckCapitalA]
