ShowCellTags

ShowCellTags
is an option for Cell which specifies whether to display tags for a cell.
  • ShowCellTags is more often set for styles of cells than for individual cells.

Create two tagged cells, one with the tag showing, the other with the tag hidden:

Click for copyable input
 
A hidden tag can still be used to locate a cell:
