Cartesian

represents the Cartesian coordinate system with default variables Xx, Yy, and Zz.

Cartesian[x,y,z]

represents the Cartesian coordinate system with variables x, y, and z.

Details and Options

To use Cartesian, you first need to load the Vector Analysis Package using Needs["VectorAnalysis`"].

Wolfram Language code: Needs["VectorAnalysis`"]

By default, all calculations are done in Cartesian coordinates:

Wolfram Language code: Coordinates[]

Wolfram Language code: Laplacian[f[Xx, Yy, Zz]]

Use another coordinate system as the default:

Wolfram Language code: SetCoordinates[Cylindrical]

Wolfram Language code: Laplacian[f[Rr, Ttheta, Zz]]//Simplify

Reset Cartesian as the default:

Wolfram Language code: SetCoordinates[Cartesian]
