Start with the expression that will be the base.

Create a built-up power by pressing the CONTROL key and the 6 key (or the CARET key) at the same time.

Type the exponent into the placeholder (which is already selected).

Move the insertion point out of the exponent and down to the baseline by pressing the CONTROL key and the SPACE bar at the same time.

Repeat the steps of the previous example.

Type x, press ^, type m, press

Add the second power in a similar way.

Type +y, press ^, type n, press

Repeat the first two steps of the first powers example.

Type x, press ^

Fill in the exponent and move out of the exponent.

Type m+n, press

Repeat the first three steps of the first powers example.

Type x, press ^, type m

Construct a built-up fraction in the exponent.

Press /, type n

Press the CONTROL key and the SPACE bar at the same time twice to move down to the baseline.
