Open...

Open brings up a dialog box to open an existing document.

• To open a document:

1. Choose Open from the File menu.
2. In the list box that appears, look for the file you want to open.
3. Click the name of the file, then click the Open button or double-click the name of the file.

• By default, Publicon shows only the files that it knows how to open, which includes text files and XML files, as well as normal Publicon documents (notebook format). Only recognized XML document types will be formatted properly; unknown XML will open as raw XML code but with any MathML extracted and formatted into another document window.

• See Web XML and File Opening Options for more information on opening non-standard file types.

• Keyboard shortcuts: ControlKeyLeftModifiedoRightModified (Windows); CommandKeyLeftModifiedoRightModified (Macintosh); Mod1KeyLeftModifiedoRightModified (X).

Publicon understands the following file types:

• Notebook

Publicon's native format, shared with all Wolfram Research products including Mathematica.

• XML

Recognized XML formats are rendered as fully formatted Publicon documents. XML formats currently supported by Publicon include Wolfram Research NotebookML, BioMed Central article XML, XHTML, and MathML extracted from unknown XML formats (with the unknown XML presented as raw text).

• Text

Files in plain text from any word processor are opened with all the text in a single cell. When all the text appears on one line, you may want to switch the cell's style to "Text" style, which is normally a word-wrapping style.

See File Opening Options for how to open a text file for putting lines or paragraphs in separate cells.

• QuickTime (Macintosh)

QuickTime movies are opened as a QuickTime cell.
