The .nb Format
When you first launch Publicon, a blank untitled document appears on the screen. Publicon documents are called notebooks and have the file extension .nb. They combine text, typeset equations, graphics, animations, and sounds in an integrated file format that works on all platforms. Notebooks are saved as ASCII text, not as binary files. As such, they are very portable and can be readily transmitted via email or FTP.
Notebooks are convenient for distributing technical content over the web. You can place a notebook on a web server for download or convert it to HTML so that its content can be viewed directly in a web browser. Most web browsers can be easily configured to automatically launch Publicon when downloading a notebook. For more information, see Publicon Getting Started: Notebooks.
For colleagues who do not have Publicon, a reader for viewing and printing notebooks, called MathReader, is available free of charge from Wolfram Research. To download MathReader, go to www.wolfram.com/products/mathreader. When saving, choose File
