Using Document Palettes

Introduction

Publicon includes document palettes for creating documents in a desired style.

The look of each style is determined by the style sheet on which that document palette is based. For example, the Default palette that appears when you first start Publicon is based on the default style sheet, PubliconDefault.nb.

To open a new document with a particular style sheet, choose a document type from the File RightTriangle New menu. For example, to compose a paper for submission to the BioMedCentral website, choose File RightTriangle New RightTriangle BioMed_Central_Article.

Click Make Default to set a palette as the default palette.

Click New Document at the top of any document palette to create a new document using that specific style sheet. A sample document appears, already formatted according to the appropriate style sheet. You can use this as a template for composing your article.

Each of the other buttons on the palette enable you to enter input in a particular style. For example, to enter a section heading, click Section on the document palette and start typing. The text you enter will automatically be formatted in the Section style for that document's style sheet.

In addition to buttons for entering headings and text, each document palette includes buttons for entering other elements.

These buttons are arranged under collapsible tabs with names like References, Lists, Graphics, or Tables, and are predefined according to the associated style sheet. Click a tab to view the buttons in that category. Click the tab again to close the category and hide the buttons. Click on the blank square button (or notch) on the left of each tab to generate a tear-off palette for that button group.

A document's export format is optimized based on the document palette you used. For example, when you choose File RightTriangle Save As RightTriangle XML for a document created using the BioMedCentral palette, the document is saved in the appropriate XML format for submitting papers to the BioMedCentral website.
