This is a discrete-time state-space model of a simple process control of a paper machine (Bialkowski (1978); Pappas, Laub, and Sandell (1980)). This discrete-time system is obtained by sampling the continuous-time model with a time delay at intervals of length , which yields a singular state matrix . The time delay is equal to the length of three sampling intervals. The other parameters defining the system are the constant and the steady state gain .
