Handling References
"Simple" Reference Format
An alternative for bypassing the bibliography database system is the "simple" or "plain" reference format. This can be used for quick articles or in conjunction with another bibliography data management application, such as EndNote. The complete text of a citation is entered into one data field and formatted to a publisher's specifications at the same time. There are 2 ways to activate this simple reference format:
1. Click Insert Reference in the document palette and enter a new key in the field, then click "New" and choose "PlainInsert" as the reference type.
Paste (or type) your citation in the InsertedBibText field and apply any formatting necessary (i.e. bold or italics for parts of the citation), and click "OK" to insert this in your document. The citation will be stored in the database, but only in this complete form and not broken down into concise reference data.
2. Place a flag file named "PlainInsertRefs.m" in your preferences directory (see Getting Started: Troubleshooting for preferences locations for your platform, and simply create an empty file using a text editor), which will force the Insert Reference button in all palettes to initiate a new "PlainInsert" reference type in the Insert Reference dialog. This type of auto-initiation creates a new key automatically.
