Rotor-Stator Interaction
In rotating machinery with a rotating shaft and a limited clearance, contact between the rotor and its surroundings may occur. In many cases, it is of vital importance to understand the behavior due to such a contact.
One reason is that the contact itself may lead to wear, another is that there exist many serious dynamics phenomena such as instability that need to be avoided, and finally, when measuring vibration, it is good to understand the signals and consequently, it is good to know how the system behaves.
This package includes models for showing the so-called jump phenomenon [1].
A disk with an unbalance mounted on a flexible rotating shaft is used in all examples; see Figure 1. The shaft is clamped and supported at the end and a stiff ring is mounted around the disk. The ring is supported flexibly with springs and dampers, as explained in the documentation of the ring component. In some examples, there is a clearance between the disk and the ring.
